Advance apology The following post has technical lingo and other various mumbo-jumbo that most people wouldn't understand. So if you are unfimilar with terms like linpack, gotoblas, etc. don't worry, just skip to the last paragraph.

There are some skills that I learned during my time at LNXI that I'll never lose... or use again, at least commercially. But they're fun nonetheless. Today I wanted to revisit the good ol' days and run Linpack on my new Thinkpad T61 laptop. I even used the latest and greatest GotoBLAS (for personal acedemic use only of course). I then ran it on my desktop at work to see how it compared. Here are the specs:

Wow, so it has been over a month since my last post. A lot has happened in that time and I take comfort in knowing that the 3 people who read my blog get here by bouncing through my wife's blog and she updates that a bit more regularly....

Needless to say, Isaac is not in the hospital any more and is pretty healthy. He turned 3 and has found his hyperdrive button so I can no longer keep up with him. A little later my daughter was born and now I'm trying to figure her out.

So, I never would've known. After the last post, Isaac got worse. So on Friday we took him back to the doctor where they decided he needed to go to Primary Children's hospital. By ambulance nonetheless... Turns out he had started getting a viral pneumonia and that was causing him to not be able to get enough oxygen. So, for the last 3 days he's been on supplemental oxygen.

But, for the most part he's doing well. He hit a low point Friday night but the doctors all say that it's the normal progression of the disease and he should pick up after that. And, so far they seem to be right. As of tonight he's breathing easier and he's not on as much oxygen. they are really trying to break up the pneumonia before he is discharged so I don't know how long that will take. Maybe Tuesday, maybe later.

So, Isaac has had a little cough for a few weeks now. But, starting on Monday (Sunday night -> Monday morning), Isaac kept waking up coughing and coming in to wake me up. Turns out it got worse and he was coughing so much it was causing him to throw up. He did the same thing the following night. Tuesday we took him to the doctor and she said it was likely a sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics and codeine cough syrup. Well, the cough syrup didn't do too much to help and his fever started. It capped at 102.9 as far as I know and he was miserable, lethargic and didn't want to do anything. Wednesday it was more of the same. That night when I went to the Brainshare concert Isaac was so bad Claudine was considering taking him to the ER. We decided to watch him closely and make a decision in the morning.
